Artist's Statement

“Dark and light intertwine in the oils to portray a feeling of calmness and sensuality. Objects transcend from absolute to still life on the canvas, all the while maintaining their substance and vitality. Natural colours are the visual core, while effective lighting artistry illuminates these timeless pieces. Inspired by Rembrandt, Goguen excites the imagination to create limitless possibilities beyond the depths of the brush strokes.”

About Sandra MacKenzie - Goguen

Sandy is a classically trained artist in both drawing and oil painting. Her passion is

still life and portraits. She is influenced by Rembrant because of his dark mystery and warm colours.It shows in all her works. An oil painter since the age of nine, she has taken courses at the Realist School of Art in Toronto under the direction of Juan Martinez and David Gluck. She has also studied drawing techniques with Paula Bradshaw. Some of her other instructors have been Tim Packer with instruction in portraits and Doug Purdon with instruction in colour harmony.
