Artist’s Statement
Cathy Boyd began painting when her first teaching position required her to teach art on a rotary basis, in the elementary school system. Faced with that responsibility, and fueled by her natural interest in art, she enrolled in a fine art teaching program at Teacher’s College. Since then Cathy’s passion for painting has been enriched by her steady enrollment in workshops and classes at the Haliburton School of Fine Arts, Georgian College, Wilfred Laurier University and with various accomplished painters, including Dave Beckett.
Primary self-taught, Cathy Boyd has mastered her own recognizable style which alternates between high realism and impressionism. Her soft pastels on paper depict landscapes, floral and still life subject matter, which are rich in colour and texture while evoking a feeling of calm and peacefulness.
"My art attempts to revisit and reconsider with a "fresh eye" those very things that at times seem insignificant as we hurry through life."
